Just about every year for over 10 years now, UrbanPromise International (UPI) in cooperation with the African Bible College here in Lilongwe has sponsored a cohort of African fellows to come to the United States. Under the caring and compassionate supervision of Nadia Vanderkuip (UPI Executive Director), they embed themselves in UrbanPromise programs in Camden and Wilmington. More recently, due to visa restrictions, they have also undertaken Master’s Degree programs. At the same time, they begin to learn fundraising and to make connections in the US with potential donors. Finally, they make presentations to the UPI Board for seed funding for their new projects or for initiatives they may wish to undertake in conjunction with existing ministries. All of this they do with the intention of returning to their communities to continue building God’s Kingdom in those places. Collectively, they have made a significant impact in every place in which they’ve started ministries – nothing short of miraculous. It’s impossible to put into words what an incredible blessing it was to gather with so many of the Fellows Alumni for food, fellowship and fun here in Lilongwe!
