What better way to kick off our pilgrimage than with a visit to Maclean Onsewa at Seeds of Promise Farm?! I remember when a very nervous Maclean stood up in front of the UPI Board at our annual summit 5 years ago to present his project. It was a very different vision from most of the other UPI-sponsored projects, which may have contributed to Maclean’s nerves. But God knew that there was a 55-acre piece of land just outside Lilongwe belonging to a small farming community which could no longer afford to cultivate it, and that there was this young man of passion and purpose who longed to make an impact in his home country. And so God moved, using us to connect the two and provide seed funding (literally!) for what is today an amazing enterprise. Not only is the land once again becoming fruitful, producing maize, tomatoes, sweet potatoes and other assorted vegetables, but Maclean and his team are reconnecting the land to the community by involving them wherever possible. Every Friday they hold bible study under the trees, feeding each other both spiritually and physically as they build relationships. How awesome to see what once was a young man’s dream being faithfully and diligently built into a reality that surpasses even what he asked or imagined. Praise God!
